My Biography
My name is Kyle Dawson. I'm a Lead Data Scientist in Geospatial Intelligence at CenterPoint Energy in Houston, TX, based out of CenterPoint Energy Tower. In my role, I build machine learning and geospatial models that turn large, messy data into decisions for a safer, more resilient, and more sustainable energy system. Before that, I received my PhD in Atmospheric Science from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. I'm passionate about our environment and take seriously our responsibility for maintaining our generally comfortable surroundings, and I love working at the intersection of information-as-data and environmental stewardship.

Before joining CenterPoint, I was a Senior Data Scientist at SeekOps Inc., where I developed algorithms and models for monitoring and quantifying methane and other greenhouse gas emissions. Earlier, I had the opportunity to do some really interesting work at NASA Langley Research Center with Dr. Rich Ferrare, where we analyzed water uptake of aerosol particles at the Department of Energy's SGP site in Oklahoma. My time in academic and government research made me a subject-matter expert in the climate science space, where I also learned that big data science was becoming more and more prevalent — so I ventured into the private sector to be part of the exciting landscape of cloud computing, APIs, machine learning and AI, and progressive decision-making toward a sustainable future.

Now, working to make energy delivery more reliable and sustainable, the emerging technology and regulatory landscape — along with the continuous learnings from the data boom — keep me on my toes both intellectually and from a regulatory perspective. Despite my busy work life, I still find time to enjoy Houston's food scene, paddle boarding, decompressing at the gym, and cooking at home.
